ANSWERS

What brace height for my bow?
Starting point for recurves is around 8", for the longbows and flatbows around 7". This can vary some from bow to bow and archer to archer--a bit of tinkering may be required to find your personal "sweet spot".

What type of string material can I use?
On any of the new bows, whatever string you prefer, and it will not affect the warranty. Personally I prefer Dynaflight '97, 14 or 15 strands with 16-18 in the loops.

Can I get a custom grip?
Yes, Chek-Mate will try to make the grip to your specifications, as long as it does not affect the integrity of the bow.

What arrow should I use?
No "right" answer to this one--sorry. Use whatever arrow material that you are most confident with. Spines will vary with the bow style, point weight, arrow length, shooting style, etc. I do suggest staying around 8 grains or more of arrow weight per pound of draw weight.

Can I get my name/favorite quote/bow's name/etc. placed on my bow?
Yes, no charge.

Can I get a bow made with a particular wood that is not listed?
We will try. It depends on whether Marc feels the wood will meet the specifications of Chek-Mate, and the availability of it. Price will depend on the actual cost of the material. To view the type of woods that we do currently offer please click the following:

What is my warranty?

Where can I see/shoot a Chek-Mate bow?
If you are in or around Northeast Mississippi, you are welcome to stop by and check out any bow I have on hand. I go to as many shoots as I can, mostly in the Southeast. I may not be set up as a vendor, but I usually have several bows with me. Visit my Schedule of Events that I will be attending to see more locations that you can try a Chek-Mate bow.

Do you ship international orders?
Yes I do. I have shipped to several different countries. Payment for international orders should be made by International Money Order please. It is your responsibility to find out if there are any shipping restrictions to your country. Postage is extra, based on actual cost, and any duties/fees are your responsibility.

What is the difference between the Falcon, Falcon Special, and Falcon Deluxe?
The Falcon Special has 6 extra riser overlays--3 on the front, 3 on the back.  The Falcon Deluxe has the overlays plus an accent stripe in the riser.  The same applies for the King's Pawn.  These do not affect the way the bow shoots, but do add very much to the looks of the bows.

What is the difference between the Hunter I and Hunter II, other than the price?
The Hunter II has a more deflexed riser, which is a more forgiving design.  It is a tiny bit slower than the Hunter I.  The price difference is because of the extra material used in the riser of the Hunter II.

Do I have to send in my riser if I decide to order extra limbs?
It is not required, but may insure a better fit.

Will the limbs from a Hunter I fit a Hunter II riser, or vice-versa?
Yes, on all but the 56" Hunter.  The poundage will change some though.

What is your favorite limb and riser wood?
Yew is my favorite limb wood, followed by Black Walnut.  How much difference the limb wood makes depends on several things--the bow type, weight, and length primarily.  In a light weight 60" recurve being drawn to 26" with yew limbs will not feel much if any different than one with maple limbs.  A 64" Crusader longbow being drawn to 65@30 will show much more different.  How much wood is in the limb and how much it has to work affects how much difference  you will feel in the woods.  The wider, thinner limbs of a recurve will generally not show as much difference as the narrower, deeper cored longbows.  This will vary with bow length, draw length, and bow poundage.  Chek-Mate will not use a limb wood that is not a proven performer, but some may work better that others in some bows.

For a riser I prefer the heavier mass weight woods--Cocobolo, Bolivian Rosewood, and Chechen.  Medium weight woods are Bubinga, Purpleheart, Imbuya.  Lighter woods are Black Walnut, Actionwood, and Maple.

Why can't I get bamboo limbs?
The reason is that in their testing, Chek-Mate has found reason to have concerns with the durability of bamboo over time.  They have also found no benefits to bamboo over yew wood in their designs.

Can I get carbon in my limbs
Yes, at an additional charge.  Chek-Mate has found the benefits of carbon to be minimal in their designs, so it is not a regular offering, but it is available.
